چکیده

The present work considers the Struma River water flow on Bulgarian territory as a starting point for evaluation of maximum and minimum water flow using an original integral method. The risk assessment is determined by specific indices like the index Mmax,i for the deviation of the maximum water flow from the calculated norm of the maximum flow Qmax,0 and the index Mmin,i for the deviation of the minimum water flow from calculated norm of the minimum flow Qmin,0. The new integral approach introducing specific indicators for risk assessment like the indices Mmin,i and Mmax,i has been checked at three sampling locations of the National monitoring net along the Struma River: Pernik (in the beginning), Krupnik (in the middle) and Marino pole (at the border in Greece) for the period 1948-2006. A significant trend towards decreasing of Mmax,i index is outlined for the three points. On contrary, a significant trend towards increasing of Mmin,i index is found at Krupnik and Marno pole sampling points.

Changes in Environmental Flow Components under the Effect of Sabalan Dam in the Qarehsou River of Ardebil Province

Sustaining environmental flows to preserve biodiversity of aquatic plant and animal species, as well as constancy of water for human communities, is essential in many river ecosystems. On the other hand, hydrological changes caused by the dam and its related environmental problems have provoked many concerns for hydrologists, ecologists and policymakers. Therefore, the main aim of this research...

On the distributions of seasonal river flows: Lognormal or power law?

[1] Distributional analysis of river discharge time series is an important task in many areas of hydrological engineering, including optimal design of water storage and drainage networks, management of extreme events, risk assessment for water supply, and environmental flow management, among many others. Having diverging moments, heavy-tailed power law distributions have attracted widespread at...

Habitat Simulation Technique as a Powerful Tool for Instream Flow Needs Assessment and River Ecosystem Management

Instream flow needs (IFN) assessment studies are performed to provide guidelines for stream water management and to assess the impacts of different water projects such as weirs, dams and stream diversions on the available fish habitat. The physical habitat simulation is one of the IFN assessment methods and also a powerful tool in management of river ecosystem that has not become a common metho...

A Blueprint for Full Collective Flood Risk Estimation: Demonstration for European River Flooding.

Floods are a natural hazard evolving in space and time according to meteorological and river basin dynamics, so that a single flood event can affect different regions over the event duration. This physical mechanism introduces spatio-temporal relationships between flood records and losses at different locations over a given time window that should be taken into account for an effective assessme...

A Flood Risk Assessment of the LaHave River Watershed, Canada Using GIS Techniques and an Unstructured Grid Combined River-Coastal Hydrodynamic Model

A flexible mesh hydrodynamic model was developed to simulate flooding of the LaHave River watershed in Nova Scotia, Canada, from the combined effects of fluvial discharge and ocean tide and surge conditions. The analysis incorporated high-resolution lidar elevation data, bathymetric river and coastal chart data, and river cross-section information. These data were merged to generate a seamless ...
